Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced today the arrests of thirty six (36) individuals for Prostitution related offenses throughout the County of Bergen, and the seizure in excess of $60,000.00 in U.S. currency related to those arrests. The arrests took place on various dates over the past week as part of a county wide prostitution initiative. The concerted enforcement effort targeted selected locations and/or businesses in response to various citizen complaints made to local police departments, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office tipline. The cases stem from joint investigations conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO), Special Investigations Squad, under the direction of Chief Steven Cucciniello, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Michael Saudino and the following Municipal Police Departments: Ramsey, Tenafly, Englewood, Bergenfield, Fort Lee, Edgewater, Cliffside Park and Rochelle Park, Paramus and Fairview. Targeted during this investigation were numerous illegal massage parlors and in-call prostitution operations that have been operating in area hotels. The term “in-call” refers to a set-up whereby customers/johns respond to a location supplied and paid for by the illegal operation, where the customer engages in sexual activity with a prostitute in exchange for money. The following is a chronological account of the arrests made:
Throughout the week of January 24, 2011, twelve (12) massage parlors, known to be committing acts of prostitution, were targeted. In all the massage parlor locations undercover officers from the BCPO were solicited to engage in acts of prostitution.
On January 24, 2011, two massage parlors known to be committing acts of prostitution in Ramsey, New Jersey were targeted. The first location utilized the name Stress Reduction Center and was located at 19 Spear Road in Ramsey. Arrested was Xingji Che (age 45) of Palisades Park, NJ who was charged with Engaging in Prostitution and Yong Shun An (age 50) of Palisades Park, NJ who was charged with Promoting Prostitution and Maintaining a Nuisance.
The second location was Ion Spa located at 875 State Route 17, Ramsey, NJ. Xin Sin Shen (age 42) of Flushing, NY and Shunnu Gong (age 39) of Flushing, NY were arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution after soliciting an undercover police officer.
On January 25, 2011, the Aloha Spa located at 481 Dean Street, Englewood, New Jersey was targeted. Yuji Jin (age 50) of Flushing, NJ was arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution. Also arrested was Geebun Kim (age 52) of Flushing, NY and charged with Obstruction of Justice. While officers were attempting to arrest Geebun Kim, Kim attempted to intervene by locking the door thereby preventing law enforcement personnel from entering the establishment, while also advising her employees that law enforcement was attempting to enter the premises.
The second location was Ocean Spa located on Washington Avenue in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Xiu J. Yang (age 42) of Bergenfield, NJ was arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
The third location was Spring Spa located on Portland Street in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Arrested was Lee S. Youn (age 55) of Palisades Park, NJ and charged with Promoting Prostitution and Maintaining a Nuisance. Also arrested was Xianyu Li (age 42) of Palisades Park, NJ and Huaxiang Nan (age 41) of Flushing, NY. Both were charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
The fourth location was Seven Spa located on South Summit Street in Tenafly, New Jersey. Shuzi Gong (age 56) of Palisades Park, NJ and Meishu Cai (45) of Flushing, NY were arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
On Wednesday, January 26, 2011, thirteen (13) individuals were arrested at various hotels in Paramus, New Jersey for prostitution related offenses. Maria Cistano (age 20) of Englewood, NJ was charged with Engaging in Prostitution and Andrea Papp (age 33) of Ridgewood, NJ was charged with Promoting Prostitution. Cistano and Papp were utilizing the hotels to operate their illegal “in-call” prostitution business. The remaining individuals were escorts along with their drivers, who would respond to a specific location, previously paid for by the clients, for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity in exchange for money. Austin Vaccaro (age 33) of West Palm Beach, FL and Wiltor J. Maslinski (age 24) of Stroudsburg, PA were arresting for Promoting Prostitution. The following were arrested for Engaging in Prostitution: Cynthia Ferraro (age 50) of Garfield, NJ, Nicole C. Wright (age 23) of Keyport, NJ, Mariana E. Caranza (age 55) of North Bergen, NJ, Liv Melde (age 35) of St. Augustine, FL, Isamar Jimenz-Hilerio (age 22) of Allentown, PA, and Jessica Soares-Figueiredo (age 24) of Newark, NJ. Javione J. Lessane (age 35) of Hoboken, NJ , Kyle D. Akins (age 30) of Piscataway, NJ and Jeffrey Braswell (age 44) of Brooklyn, NYwere arrested for Facilitating Prostitution.
On Thursday, January 27, 2011, the KOA Spa located on Lemoine Avenue in Fort Lee, NJ was targeted. Jina Chung (age 49) of Fort Lee, NJ was arrested and charged with Promoting Prostitution. Yeong I. Herrin (age 55) of Cliffside Park, NJ and Ming Shan Lu (age 44) of Flushing, NY were arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
The second location on this date was the Four Seasons Spa located on Main Street in Fort Lee, NJ. Ailian Jin (age 38) of Little Ferry, NJ was arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
The third location was the Aqua Spa located on River Road in Edgewater, NJ. Meishu Jiang (age 41) of Palisades Park, NJ was arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution
On Friday, January 28, 2011, the World Health Spa located on River Road in Edgewater, New Jersey was targeted. As a result, Jong C. Lee (age 61) of Cresskill, NJ was arrested and charged with Promoting Prostitution. Additionally, Chaim Bodner (age 55) of Monsey, NY, Geumhwa Song (age 33) of Flushing, NY and Xiangli Sun (age 24) of Flushing, NY were arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
The second location was the Aroma Therapy located on Bergen Boulevard in Fairview, NJ. Zhang Qing (age 47) of Flushing, NY was arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
The third location was the Hudson Therapy located on Old River Road, Edgewater, NJ. Son Ja Hwa (age 48) of Edgewater, NJ was arrested and charged with Engaging in Prostitution.
The aforementioned individuals were all served with summonses and released on their own recognizance. Additionally, most of the locations mentioned above were closed by the respective jurisdictions as a result of health and building code violations.
Prosecutor Molinelli states that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the members of the participating police departments for assistance and cooperation.
